Bogus cops strike again as family survives ordeal

There have been a number of similar cases where people were hijacked or robbed by thugs impersonating police officers in Boksburg and surrounding towns.

A family was left stranded after fake police officers, driving a white BMW fitted with blue lights resembling those of the police, signalled them to pull over.

The victim told Boksburg police that on October 24, he and his mother-in-law were driving in a white Mercedes-Benz along Barry Marais Road, near Kingfisher Avenue on their way to Vosloorus, when the imposters flashed blue lights to signal them to pull over.

They believed the men behind the wheel and his other three accomplices were real police officers and came to a stop by the side of the road.

To the victims’ surprise, the four bogus officers held them up at gunpoint and instructed them to get inside the boot of the car.

The thugs drove away with the son and left his mother-in-law stranded at the scene. At this moment she called the vehicle tracking company, Netstar, to report the hijacking.

The son was later dumped next to an undisclosed dam and he managed to get a lift to Boksburg where a case was later opened.

The car was recovered, with the help of the vehicle tracking company, in Vosloorus. No injuries were reported and no shots were fired.

The Advertiser is still waiting for comment from the police as to what they should do if they find themselves in this terrifying scenario.
