Correction of facts: Uber not involved in robbery

Since launching the safety app, Uber has provided millions of people with technology that allows them to get a ride at the push of a button, track every trip with GPS technology and report any issues 24/7 with a dedicated safety team.

The Advertiser has taken note of incorrect facts in the article “Another Uber driver robbed”, as it appeared in the newspaper of October 19, and online.

The article states that a regular night on the job resulted in a violent robbery for a local Uber driver. It was also stated the Uber driver received a driving request on the Taxify app to pick up clients in Delmore informal settlement.

It is therefore clear that a Taxify app was used and that Uber was not involved in the incident in any way. Taxify and Uber are two different businesses and app.

Uber recently announced it is in the process of rolling out a new rider and driver safety toolkit.

The toolkit will introduce new innovative features which aim to raise the bar on safety and increase transparency, accountability and peace of mind for all users.

Features that will be introduced as part of the toolkit, include an emergency button, a safety centre and speed alerts.

“With more than 15 million trips on the Uber app every day, there is nothing more important than the safety of riders, drivers and courier,” said Sachin Kansal, Uber’s global head of safety product.

The Advertiser apologises for the incorrect facts by connecting Uber to Taxify and for any inconvenience caused.
