Book online for your learners and driver’s licence test

The new innovative system has reduced long queues and saved travelling time and money for thousands of applicants.

Learners and driver’s license applicants will no longer be able to walk into their nearest licence testing centres (DLTCs) and book for their learners or drivers licences.

They can now book online.

The Gauteng Department of Transport has decided that all booking applications will be done exclusively on-line with effect from November 1 due to the successful implementation of this system.

Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesman Simon Zwane, said: “With close to 50 per cent of driving licence application bookings being made on-line, Gauteng is now moving towards the total cessation of walk-in bookings at all its driving licence testing centres (DLTC).

“Out of 108 554 people who made applications last week, 48 205 used the online booking system instead of waiting in long queues at the driving licence testing centres.

“This encouraging growth has been achieved within short period of seven weeks since the launch of the service on August 30.

Zwane said the system allows new applicants to schedule the date and time on which they intend to take learner or driving licence tests.

It also allows users to renew their driving licence cards as well as public driver’s permits.

“Before the introduction of the on-line service, applicants were required to travel to a driving licence testing centre and queue for between 140 to 180 minutes depending on what time they arrive in order to book a time slot.

“With the introduction of the on-line service, applicants are able to make their bookings in the comfort of their homes even after hours and weekends.

“The online service takes the applicant between five to 10 minutes depending on the speed with which the applicant is able to type and the available capacity at the DLTC.

“If a preferred time slot is not available at the first DLTC, the applicant can quickly search for the available slot at any other participating centre,” Zwane said.

The service is available at online.natis.gov.za
