Job seekers cautioned to beware of job recruitment hoax

A scam message is also sent to people who have not applied for any post from the City, and therefore residents are urged not to reply to the SMS.

It has come to the attention of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) that a hoax message is making rounds informing job seekers that the position they have applied for has become available, and that the applicant meets the criteria.

According to metro spokesperson, this is a scam.

“The City of Ekurhuleni’s recruitment system sends an e-mail correspondence to the candidates’ e-mail addresses that was specified during registration, notifying them of the status of their applications.

“In some instances, correspondence can be through a call. Furthermore, applications for jobs in the City do not require any payment to be made.”

He said should one be required to make a payment in relation to the City’s recruitment, residents are urged to report it to the CoE anonymous Anti-Fraud Hotline on 0800 102 201 or email ethicsinfo@ekurhuleni.gov.za
