Local firefighters battle passenger train blaze in Germiston

The source of the fire is undetermined and still under investigations by Prasa officials.    

 

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) firefighters from Germiston and Boksburg central fire stations, collectively battled the blaze of a burning passenger train in Germiston train station.

According to Wlliam Ntladi, district manager media liaison emergency services, the incident took place on at around 9.30am this morning (Tuesday, October 16).

“On arrival, two carriages one being the central engine cart of the train was found burning wildly, fire spreading to the adjacent cart. The train was at the platform and no commuters were in the train,” said Ntladi.

“Active fire-fighting was initiated after the power supply was cut off for safety reasons. Water supply was connected from the hydrant within the station in one of the platforms.

“No casualties were recorded on scene because of the blaze.”
