Scrapyard owner found shot in a Reiger Park veld

Preliminary findings indicated the man, who owned a scrapyard, was shot, assaulted and his body dragged into the veld.

The body of Cameroonian Jepther Fon was found dumped in the veld along Middle Road, Reiger Park, on October 8.

The Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Const Jan Mokwana, said the man’s body was found by the Reiger Park Crime Intelligence team.

This is after his girlfriend, a Zimbabwean national living in Springs, reportedly told the police she and her boyfriend were attacked in KwaThema at about 8.30pm on October 7.

The girlfriend allegedly initially told the police she and her boyfriend were driving in a Nissan Livina in KwaThema when all of a sudden another vehicle stopped in front of their vehicle.

She alleged six armed men from the vehicle confronted them and shot the boyfriend in the shoulder before they stole his money.

She allegedly told police two suspects then jumped into the Nissan Livina and drove away with the injured boyfriend as they wanted more money from him. The other four thugs allegedly dragged her into their vehicle and drove around with her.

They, according to her statement, later dumped her next to the Oos Rand Railway Station in Boksburg, and thereafter she reported the crimes to the Reiger Park police which registered a case of kidnapping, robbery and hijacking.

Further investigation, however, revealed this was not the case. The woman reportedly admitted she lied about the hijacking and the scene of the crime, and told police what she knew was her boyfriend received a call from people who wanted to sell him copper for his scrapyard business in the Boksburg CBD.

The businessman was meant to meet his clients in Reiger Park, and he went missing. His vehicle was found dumped along St Anthony’s Road in Reiger Park.

The woman was then arrested and charged with perjury, and was expected to appear in court soon.
