A day of celebrations at St Francis Care Centre

St Francis, a non-profit organisation, offers services in home-based care, testing and palliative care.

St Francis Care Centre invited local learners to join in the celebrations of St Francis Day on October 11.

The opportunity was utilised to educate learners in hospice palliative care as well as HIV Testing Services (HTS).

St Francis Day is celebrated annually at the centre and this year Grade Seven learners from Dawn Park Primary and Grade Eight learners from Ilinge High participated in the activities.

The programme included a debate between the learners on the topic “Should condoms be distributed at schools?’

“This is a relevant topic as we focus on HTS. It is important to make sure the learners are educated in this regard,” said social worker Cebile Maseko.

The learners were also taken on a tour through the centre and informed on the services on offer.

An HTS manager also gave a short presentation on HIV testing.
