A date made online turns into rape

Boksburg North communications officer Capt Juanita Coetzer confirmed a case of rape has been opened.

An exciting new relationship quickly turned into a horrific experience for a woman from Ravensklip.

“After getting to know a man on a dating application, she met him on October 5 at about 8pm at her house in Keymer Street where she lived with her children,” said Coetzer.

“She spoke to the man online for three weeks and wanted to pursue the relationship. After meeting at her home they went to his house and he put on a movie.

“Unfortunately, this romantic gesture progressed into him being violent and sexually assaulting her. She did not give consent.”

As soon as he left the room the woman ran and went to seek help.

“The case is under investigation,” said Coetzer.

Coetzer also commented that this is not the first case of rape reported after a the specific dating application date.

“People should be extremely careful and vigilant when meeting with people who they contact online.”
