The Dawn Park Primary School learners in Grades One, Four and Seven have been tested for concentration recently.
The test is a computer-based test to objectively measure attention, impulsivity, auditory and visual destructibility in learners.
The tests were done for free by Kip McGrath Education Centre.
According to Dr Johan Meyer from the School of Transformation and who has been involved with Kip McGrath education centre since 2002, he has built up a good relationship with the schools in the Boksburg area over the years.
“I have conducted continuous performance (computerised concentration) tests on individuals since 2004.
“The Axon is an updated version to objectively evaluate concentration but can ascertain whether the learner is more visually or auditory distracted. It also can evaluate whether the learner is fidgety and slows down during tasks or speeds up during tasks.”
“What makes the system great is that it is geared towards schools, giving the teacher a printout about the percentage of what the concerns are in her class as well as give individual printouts of the learners to the teacher.”
Meyer said the test has been used internationally, but for the first time it is available in South Africa.
“If I should test another school it would cost in the region of about R25 000, but the information you get is amazing,” Meyer said.
