Local businesses support Cupcakes of Hope in fight against cancer

Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit organisation, with the mission to create awareness of the early warning signs of childhood cancer and supporting families who have been affected by childhood cancer by raising funds.

In support of childhood cancer, Makopano Risk Solutions partnered with Sunward Park Lifestyle Shopping Centre management team and sold more than 1 000 cupcakes to raise money for children with cancer.

The initiative, held at the centre on Saturday, September 29, saw the cupcake volunteers raising R10 000 through the sale of cupcakes.

Some of the cakes were donated by members of the community and others purchased from various shops.

Makopano Risk Solutions’s managing director, Andrew Avis, thanked the residents of Boksburg and surrounding towns for opening their hearts and wallets to this worthy cause.

The initiative forms part of the National Cupcake Day 4 Kids With Cancer’ main fund-raiser held annually in September in association with Cupcakes of Hope. The funds raised go towards paying for the medical bills of young cancer patients.

* According to Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope,  an amount of  R2 065 807 was raised nationally to fight cancer.

The national cupcake day was held simultaneously on September 29 across 79 malls in South Africa and involved thousands of bakers – also known as cupcake angels – who began preparations many months before.

“The event is totally community driven relying on the commitment and resolve of bakers from as young as three years old right up until 90 years old to come together to ‘bake’ a difference in the lives of little cancer patients,” said Cipriano.

“Thank you to every single person who baked, decorated, volunteered and donated their time and energy towards the making National CupCake day truly the sweetest day of the year. We will be able to bless so many more children in 2018/2019.”
