Top spellers to battle it out during the spelling bee competition finale

Residents are encouraged to take membership with the local libraries to improve their reading, writing and spelling abilities and stand a chance to win great prizes.

Young wordsmiths are set to go head-to-head during a spelling bee competition finale on September 15, at the Boksburg Civic Centre, as part of the City’s Literacy Month programme.

Grade Four to Six learners, teachers and parents will converge at the centre to witness the fierce competition among the young spellers.

The 12 best spellers were picked from winners of regional spelling bee competitions hosted at the metro libraries.

According to Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, the metro’s Library and Information Services, in continuation of the Literacy Month activities, is launching the Fine-Free Week.

“The metro invites all patrons with outstanding library materials to return them to the library between September 15 and 22 without paying a fine or providing explanations for the delays,” he said.
