77-year-old man handed 36 years for sexually abusing girl
It appears the rapist will be 93 when his sentence expires.
The Boksburg Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 77-year-old man from Cinderella to 32 years imprisonment for raping a nine-year-old girl.
The rapist was also handed an additional four years for other charges related to sexual assaults.
The girl suffered the barrage of abuse at the hands of her great-uncle from 2015 to 2016. The accused was subsequently arrested and his case was finalised on August 21.
The great-uncle pleaded not guilty on March 16 to all four charges of sexually abusing the little girl but was, on August 21, found guilty on all four counts and sentenced.
Charge one and four deals with rape that occurred in the period of 2015 to 2016, and count two and three deals with sexual assault.
Aggravating circumstances in all four incidents is the complainant was a minor and the incident occurred multiple times during the said period.
The accused has no previous conviction. A victim impact statement was presented, and the rapist was sentenced as follows: count one – 16 years, count two – two years, count three – two years, and count four – 16 years.
Count two, three and four will run concurrently with count one. The man was declared unfit to possess a firearm and the court ordered his name be entered into the register of sexual offenders.
Magistrate Colbert Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutor Maria Fyfe represented the state.
