Reiger Park SAPS will now ‘see’ the light during power outages

Due to cable theft and ageing power infrastructure networks in the township, power outages are a common occurrence in the area.

Actom-Boksburg, a top company in the electrical equipment sector, donated a solar power system to the Reiger Park SAPS to at least keep the lights on during power outages.

The Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lt Col Paul Mathebula said the police station is plunged into darkness on a regular basis.

“It’s thanks to Actom’s donation that police officers will no longer have to scramble around in the dark during a power outage,” said Mathebula.

The donated lights, worth thousands of rand, can store electricity generated by a solar panel. The batteries have enough capacity to power the lights for more than eight hours, and that means they don’t have to live by candlelight as they used to during blackout events.

Mathebula expressed his gratitude to the company for its support, saying the lights will go a long way in addressing the downright danger police officers are faced with during blackout events.

Actom have in the past sponsored the station’s netball team, consisting of SAPS and CPF members, with netball kit.

Actom’s deputy chairman Andries Mthethwa said the donations form part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility.

“We are also part of the community and are committed to uplifting the communities where we do business,” said Mthethwa.
