Windmill Park youth turns over a new leaf
Good news is that since January this year most of the members and other community members have been hired in a new development project taking place in Windmill Park.
In the year 2016, the Advertiser published an article about ex-convicts pleading for a second chance in Windmill Park.
Due to the scarcity of jobs, the young men from Windmill Park, featured in the article, seemed to have no choice but to reconsider a life of crime or resort to drugs in order to forget about their troubles.
Since the article, the young people started an organisation called the Youth Information Desk in 2017, which aimed at curbing teenage pregnancy, drugs and other issues that are having a negative impact on the community.
YID members worked with other organisations and Sam Creations to keep young unemployed youth busy.
Sabastian Adam said he felt relieved since he started working after three years of unemployment.
One of the Youth Information Desk leaders, Romano Johnson, said: “We are pleased that young people were hired even though they didn’t have experience.
“We are pleading also to the government to come on board and assist in uplifting young people in Windmill Park.”
