Nine-year-old celebrates completion of second successful food and blanket project

The second donation included over 60 blankets, a full box of brand new collars and leashes, tinned cat and dog food, cat and dog pellets and water bowls.

They say dynamite comes in small packages, and in the case of Martinique Nel (9), this is definitely true.

This little girl is making a huge difference in the Boksburg community.

Martinique, a learner at Laerskool Concordia, began a food and blanket project in April 2018 to aid the local SPCA. Flyers were handed out to her friends, while posters and social media were used to promote this fantastic project.

After three months of asking around, looking for sponsors, a lot of Facebook posts and hard work, Martinique and her mother, Angelique Nel, visited Boksburg SPCA on August 10 to deliver the huge donation towards the animals of Boksburg SPCA.

Remington Supplies also donated 18 branded T-shirts for the SPCA staff and One Stop Safety Gear donated 18 overalls.

Martinique received sponsors for her project from Daro Pet Products, Remington Supplies, One Stop Safety Gear, Montego, and Mega Mica Boksburg.

This is her second project of such nature with the first also befitting the Boksburg SPCA in 2016.

Martinique has a deep love for animals and is passionate about making a difference. She has four dogs, a cat and two fish of her own.

She believes good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others.

Martinique lives by the motto: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

It is clear that Martinique has a lot of support from her parents who are very proud of their little girl.

“She is such a good example for other children,” said Sue Beadon, committee member at the Boksburg SPCA.

Beadon said the SPCA is always in need of donations.

Martinique is eager to continue her good work.

“Thank you for this amazing donation, our furr-kids have been so spoilt by you,” said the SPCA on the Boksburg SPCA New Facebook Page.
