Trichardts Road bridge construction to cause traffic woes

The road construction is estimated to take a year.

A board on the corner of Trichardts and Ridge roads states that the Trichardts Road bridge will be closed from July 31 to August next year.

As this is one of the busiest feeder routes in Boksburg, this closure will have a big impact on the community.

According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson and senior media manager of the Ekurhuleni metro, the upgrading of Trichardts Road between the N12 and Ridge Road will not cause the entire road to be closed.

“Planned works is to widen Trichards Road between the N12 and Ridge Road in Boksburg.

“The construction work will commence on Tuesday, July 31, and is expected to be completed in August 2019. The widening of Trichardts Road is to increase the capacity of the storm water system where the road crosses over the stream.

“The signs erected is to inform the travelling public of the proposed road construction. The intention is to accommodate the traffic via deviations within the current road reserve, still allowing traffic in both directions,” said Gadebe.

“The bridge will be constructed in half widths, to minimise the traffic disruptions”

According to Gadebe, although portions of the road reserve will be closed at times, the intention is always to keep a lane available in both directions during construction.

“Disruptions will, therefore, be a reality, but all efforts will be made to minimise the inconvenience. Traffic will be accommodated via deviations properly signposted.”

“The metro urges residents to be patient for the duration of the project and apologises for any inconvenience caused.”

Complaints can be directed to the call centre on 086 054 3000.
