Watch: Boksburg CBD is becoming a shameful dumpsite

Illegal dumping sites are also mushrooming on Cason Road, Leeuwpoort Street, Trichardts Road towards Cason and on all intersections in the CBD.

Illegal dumping sites have become a greater reality throughout Boksburg.

This is according to Ward 32 councillor Marius de Vos, who said this is an issue especially in the Boksburg CBD along Leeuwpoort and Market streets.

“I have brought the issue of illegal dumping, even happening in a parking lot, to the attention of the metro’s waste management a month ago,” said de Vos.

“I was told the local depot has refused to clean or clear the illegal dump due to human faeces and a urine smell.

“The illegal dumping in the parking lot in Leeuwpoort Street has become a health hazard.”

He said illegal dumping in the CBD has become a serious problem.

“Waste management staff does collect refuse at least twice a day but leaves refuse overnight on the street which attracts vagrants and recyclers to the CBD who empties both bins and plastic bags leaving a mess behind.

“Every intersection in the CBD has become a makeshift dump. The CBD is also in serious need of a disinfection cleaning spree.”

Dumpsites in the CBD are a sight for sore eyes.

He said sweeping of the streets has not been done for the last two years under his stewardship in the ward.

“These illegal dumping sites are growing by the day. It is clear that waste management in Boksburg is either not coping with the workload or their management plan is not effective.”

Glass bottles, burnt clothing, human faeces, drug paraphernalia and so much more are being dumped on the city streets.

“Litter pickers do pick up trash in the CBD on a daily basis but the refuse bags are not collected every day. Hence the unsightly sight of refuse strewn around in public space.”

The Advertiser reported the illegal dumping to the council and has not received any comment as of yet.
