New metro offices in Boksburg still not complete

The Advertiser visited the new revamped old Magistrate’s Court on July 10 and no business was yet being done.

The Ekurhuleni metro offices at the old Magistrate’s Court still remains closed, though the metro announced that they would open towards the end of May.

According to one of the construction workers found on the site, the revamping of the court that will now be utilised by the metro is still underway due to unfinished maintenance work.

In April, Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, said the purpose of this project was to upgrade the old Magistrate’s Court to provide office space for the Ekurhuleni metro.

“The upgrading of the building will be concluded in May. The relevant department/s to occupy the offices will be determined in due course and services to be rendered here are to be general municipal services,” Gadebe said at the time.

The building is situated on Church Street and dates back to 1889, making it a historic site.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, said the contractor is still busy with completion of the work.

“Once the work is done, the facility will be ready for occupation.”
