Rotary clubs in Boksburg now led by new presidents

During the respective induction ceremonies, each club prided themselves on how successfully they have worked together for the benefit of the community.

The two new presidents of the two Rotary Clubs in Boksburg. Michele Choromanski of Boksburg Lake and Derek Fox of Boksburg. Their years of office run from July 1 to June 30. Both Michele and Derek were chosen as Rotarians of the Year for the last year.

Within two weeks, two new Rotary presidents were officially inducted in Boksburg.

Derek Fox was inducted as the new president of Rotary Club Boksburg on June 27 taking over from Noel Wauchope.

Michele Choromanski from the Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake was inducted on July 2, taking over from Martin Stokes.

The Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake also inducted new Woodlands International College Interact leader Daniella Dos Santos and Anns president Pam Daniell.

The Rotary Club of Boksburg recognised four new Paul Harris Fellows, including Herman Muntingh and Joan Muntingh, Anne-Marie Nel and Jenny Findlay, while Boksburg Lake recognised Anns president Pam Daniell as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Such recognition entails that the club makes a donation of $1 000 (approximately R13 500) in the new fellow’s name to the Rotary Foundation, for use in humanitarian programmes and other Rotary approved projects worldwide.

A hugely respected certificate and pin are issued to the new Paul Harris Fellow who joins the society, known as the Paul Harris Fellowship Society and the new fellow is registered as such internationally.

Meanwhile, the Rotarian of the Year trophies went to Michele Choromanski and Derek Fox.

Rotary Club of Boksburg president, Derek Fox said: “As a club we will continue making a difference in the lives of children and the aged. We will also try and develop opportunities for the unemployed people.”

The new president of Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake, Choromanski, during her speech encouraged Rotarians to learn from Nelson Mandela’s leadership skills.

“You must be prepared to fight for your dreams. As a small club, we need to focus on why we became Rotarians. Never let fear get in the way, dare to dream big, see the bigger picture and be prepared to work,” Choromanski said.

Choromanski highlighted that the Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake will continue to support their existing projects namely, among others, Vita Nova, Cosmos, Lona Kruger Feeding scheme and Urban Ruins.

The Rotary Interact Club is a club for young people aged 12 to 18 who want to join together to tackle the issues in their community.

The club has been involved with various community projects over the years to support the community.
