Reiger Park young people fight crime with sports

The Youth Desk’s main responsibility includes helping the police curb crime in the different communities within the Reiger Park policing precinct.

The Reiger Park Crime Prevention Youth Desk hosted a successful sports against crime event on June 28.

They did so in partnership with the Reiger Park SAPS, Social Crime Prevention, Women’s Desk, Health and Social Development, CPF members, Famsa, Phakamani Sevice Centre and the Flock of God Church in Ramaphosa.

Wearing their netball and soccer kits, scores of young people from Ramaphosa and Reiger Park flocked to the Reiger Park Stadium to participate in the sporting event.

Before the games commenced, the acting station commander of Reiger Park SAPS, Capt Zakhele Dladla led a 5km fun walk with the young people around Reiger Park to raise awareness against crime in the area.

Youth Desk chairperson, Rebecca Hlongwane, said: “We wanted to draw the attention of young people from Ramaphosa and Reiger Park to fight crime as they are still on school holidays.

“There was no better way to do this but to organise a sports day because we know young people love sport.”
