Martin Primary enjoys a big walk to raise funds

The event was nothing short of being a festival, and it again proved to be quite popular.

Martin Primary School went big this year for its annual fund-raiser held at the end of May.

The fund-raiser, in the form of the Big Walk taking place at the school’s premises, is important to Martin Primary as it is the only way of raising much-needed funds.

Principal Hennie Theron said the annual Big Walk has been Martin’s tradition for many years.

“I believe the Big Walk goes back some 40 years. We are very fortunate because the walk is well supported by everyone from parents, teachers and children.

“The event was a great success with sponsors coming on board, such as Global Elite, who sponsored us with 1 000 medals this year.

“Our main sponsor is and has always been the parents. We have the most supportive and dedicated parents one can ever ask for.”

Luke Lou in Grade Three walked 50 laps as part of the Big Walk.

This is a community-based event, which sees family gather to enjoy a great day of food and drinks, music, lots of prizes to be won and stalls selling anything you can think of from pancakes, clothes, computers, toys, books and much more.

Martin Primary School prides itself on being a school with a happy, creative and caring environment.

As a result, Martin Primary has seen generations, including previous members of the PTA and SGB, come back to the Big Walk every year.
