Pedestrian run over, killed on Rondebult Road

EMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit will further investigate

Traffic was a nightmare along Rondebult and North Rand roads this morning following a pedestrian being struck and killed

According to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, a young woman was run over at 5.30am on Rondebult Road, northbound past North Rand Road.

“It is understood the traffic light has just turned green when she ran across, west to east, when she was hit by a sedan,” said Kgasago.

“She sustained multiple injuries, including head injuries.”

Russel Meiring, communications officef for ER24, confirmed a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was killed this morning when she was knocked over by a small bakkie.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 5.50am to find the body of a woman,  lying in the right-hand lane. A small bakkie bakkie was parked a few metres in front of her.

“Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained numerous and showed no signs of life.

“CPR and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated, in an effort to revive the patient. Unfortunately, after 30 minutes, no vital signs returned and the woman was declared dead.”

The driver of the bakkie fortunately escaped injury.
