Sixth suspect in Boksburg CIT heist arrested

Further charges are imminent as the investigations progress.

A sixth suspect in the Boksburg cash-in-transit heist has been arrested and had already made his first court appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on June 18.

The accused was remanded in custody after the cases against him and his co-accused was postponed to August 13 for further investigations.

The sixth suspect, Thapelo Nchabeleng, didn’t indicate if he will be applying for bail.

Nchabeleng and his co-accused are facing charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of explosives, possession of prohibited firearms, possession of a fully automatic firearm, possession of semi-automatic firearms and 10 attempted murder counts.

A gang of about 10 suspects, driving in four vehicles, targeted two cash vans from G4S next to the intersection of North Rand and Atlas roads, on May 17. They reportedly bombed both cash vans, exchanged fire with the G4S guards and stole cash before fleeing the scene.

Different police units reacted and gave chase, which ended at the George Koch Hostel where the five suspects were arrested.

Investigations continue.
