The East Rand Cancer Relay for Life held in Boksburg was a huge success on March 9 this year.
This was the first relay at PG Park, and the venue proved to be a great alternative to Boksburg City Stadium.
In a jovial and, at times, sombre mood, the supporters, survivors and organisers certainly pulled together to make this year’s event yet another resounding success.
The annual Cansa Relay For Life Summit brings together all of the units across South Africa that hosted a Relay for Life event.
The team from the East Rand won the following awards for the NBU region (East Rand, Vereeniging, Potch, Klerksdorp, Pretoria and Limpopo):
- National award for honourable mention best survivor recruitment.
- National award winner for most impactful mission and fight back
- National award winner for best income
- National award winner for best average income per team
- National award winner for most impactful survivor and caregiver involvement.
“This would not have been possible without the support of our community, the survivors, caregivers and our sponsors,” said Yolandi Jacobs, the community mobiliser and fund-raising developer from the East Rand.
