Accused denied legal aid in Uber attack case

Scharneck is accused of stabbing the 42-year-old Uber driver three times on December 26, last year, after she picked him up in Reiger Park and was driving him to Sandton.

The application for legal aid by the Sunward Park man accused of stabbing a female Uber driver has been denied, the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court heard on June 14.

Jacques Henry Scharneck (29) arrived in court on Thursday to hear that his application has been declined.

Scharneck told the court that the rejection puts him in a difficult position because he could not afford private legal representation.

The accused indicated that he was intending to appeal the decision by Legal Aid South Africa.

The matter was then postponed to June 27.
