Safety of shoppers a priority for Retail Park management

As part of the safety precautions, tenants are equipped with a panic button

The management of the Retail Park in Boksburg is taking all the necessary precautions possible to ensure the safety of shoppers.

Stores at the Retail Park have recently been targeted by gangs of robbers.

On April 26, a gang of robbers targeted Incredible Connection. The store was also robbed in 2015.

In September, 2016, Total Sports was robbed.

Francois Praeg, facility/technical operations manager at Retail Park, said they cannot disclose their internal strategies, however, all their premises are equipped with security and car guards.

“The car guards are also vigilant of any criminal activity,” said Praeg.

“These robberies have taken place inside the shops, so the onus rests with the management of such stores to ensure safety of its customers.”

Praeg said each tenant is equipped with a panic button, supplied by centre management.

“The panic button is connected to 24 hour armed response in the area.

“CCTV footage have showed these robbers exit the shops without anybody even aware of what happened inside the shops.

“By the time the panic is activated they have already fled. One needs to realise it is not easy to tell the difference between perpetrators or shoppers.”
