Public meeting called to discuss metro’s plan to rehabilitate lake

The metro has set aside R65-million over the next three financial years to restore the Boksburg Lake

A public meeting will be held regarding the rehabilitation of the Boksburg Lake on June 19.

The meeting will be held at 6pm at the Boksburg Civic Hall. Ward 32 Councillor Marius de Vos said he has been tasked to invite both residents and business people to attend such a meeting to be addressed by SRK Consulting and officials of the metro’s Environment Management Department on the findings of studies conducted to clean the water body of the lake.

Sustainable solutions in consultation with the community will also be presented.

“Collective efforts ranging from action committees to the signing of petitions reminding the municipality of the degradation of the lake seems to have born fruit,” said de Vos.

“The metro has committed to attend to the appalling conditions of the lake through proper budgeting to the tune of R65-million over the next three financial years.”

He said during the meeting there will also be an opportunity to fill the vacant position of health and community development portfolio on the ward committee.

He said nomination forms are available at room 219 at the Boksburg Customer Care Centre.

“Please bring along your green bar-coded identity document or identity card to be able to participate in the elections.

“Only registered voters residing within the ward will be allowed to participate in the election.

“I would also like to extend a word of thanks and appreciation to the residents who attended the public meeting held on May 20. Many of the service delivery issues raised by residents in the meeting are receiving attention today.”
