The world is a stage for local upcoming performing artist

Young artists has been on stage at the State Theatre, Montecasino Teatro and in front of many well-known photographers’ lenses.

 

Zijn-Rudolph van Zyl (22) is a young performing artist that is quickly making his mark in the entertainment industry.

He is already creating and taking part in wonderful new artistic projects. This artist with his big, friendly smile guards a fire of creative passion that will not burn out.

Van Zyl has been a Witfield resident for the past 13 years and matriculated from Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen in 2014. Since his school days, he has been most comfortable on stage and in front of a camera, taking part in drama and revue activities.

Today he is known for his killer solo performances with dramatic fashion statements.

He completed a BA Drama degree at the University of Pretoria and started to work as a professional actor immediately.

“Drama was never just a hobby, it was my thing, a career that I always knew I was going to pursue.” said van Zyl.

After completing his studies, his plan was to immediately put what he learned to work and be a full-time performer.

Van Zyl is signed with Talent ETC artist management and Alushi modelling agency.

He was part of the ensemble in The Sound of Music at the Teatro in April this year. He will also be seen on KykNet in the near future.

In July van Zyl will be on the stage in Bloemfontein at the Vrystaat Arts Festival, performing in the theatre piece Vir Ander, a follow up of the production’s performance in the State Theatre last year. Vir Ander was also nominated for a Naledi Theatre Award for Best Ensemble.

Van Zyl was also the creator and performer of Embryo, an experimental theatre production that was performed at the Kopanong Student Arts Festival.

“Embryo was the beginning of my own vision and creative process as a performing artist,” said van Zyl.

He is a seasoned singer and is also part of The Vox Collective, performing at Afrikaans is Groot in Pretoria and Cape Town, as well as Classics is Groot for the past two years.

  • Community

This artist is no stranger to the community and helps many children to reach for their dreams. He has been writing and directing EG Jansen’s Tienertoneel for the past three years and it has been quite successful.

Van Zyl is a creative director that also brings something fresh and unique to revue’s that he choreographs.

He has already choreographed revues at local schools such as Witfield Laerskool, Hoërskool Oosterlig and EG Jansen.

“I think it is very important to remind the youth in our community that they can live their dream, there are many opportunities here in Boksburg and surrounding areas, you just have to go and look for it.”

This artist has stayed in Boksburg throughout his studies and although he performs across the country, he always comes back home.

  • Passions

Van Zyl is always busy with some sort of a creative project whether he is composing music, being photographed, taking photographs, singing, writing or reading.

Whatever his passion, it is always focused on the arts and how to improve skills and enhance talents.

In the rare moments when he is not working on a creative project, he enjoys keeping fit, embarking on hikes and just being in nature with his friends.

Inspiration

“I am constantly inspired by my direct family.

“My mother’s drive and ambition motivates me, my brother’s creativity and musicality also influence me and my father and his influence as a pastor always keeps me going in the right direction”

Van Zyl has also surrounded himself with talented friends in the industry like singers, make-up artists, writers and dancers that believe in him.

  • Own project

Van Zyl has been working hard on building a brand and although it could go in many different directions, he decided to launch a clothing brand in March 2017 called Herbore.

“This is the platform where I can build a brand that expresses my creativity in a personal way.

“I started with the clothing line, but believe that it will expand in so much more in the near future.”

A new Herbore summer line will be launched later in 2018.
