Suspect trying to evade police collides with a traffic light

The hunt is still on for the two accomplishes.

The EMPD Public Order Policing Unit provided back up to the Boksburg police station members who were in pursuit of a grey Ford Echo sport vehicle on Friday,  June 1 around 2pm.

According to Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the driver of the vehicle was arrested after his Ford Echo collided with a traffic light pole at the intersection of Trichardts and Ridge roads in Boksburg North.

“Preliminary investigations on the scene revealed that the Ford Echo is a rented car which was reported stolen after the renter failed to return it on the agreed upon day,” said Kgasago.

“Allegedly, the arrested driver of the Ford Echo together with two accomplices were seen trying to steal a car in Boksburg.

“A person who witnessed the attempted theft called the police and provided them with the description of the Ford Echo. When the Ford was spotted it failed to stop when instructed to stop by the police hence the high speed chase that ensued.”

He said the recovered vehicle was towed to SAPS Van Ryn Deep in Benoni for further investigations and safekeeping.

“The arrested suspect (34) from Stanger in Kwazulu-Natal was detained at Boksburg police station for possession of a stolen vehicle.”

He was expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
