No response from GDH yet after claims of alleged medical negligence at Tambo

The patient said she remains unhappy with the way the hospital management handled the situation.

Tambo Memorial Hospital management have not yet answered questions put to them following claims of alleged medical negligence.

A 33-year-old resident of Reiger Park, Jageleen Hermanus, claimed that health workers at the hospital had left a needle inside her body while she was receiving treatment for a kidney stone in April.

While the hospital management is keeping mum about the circumstances that led to the needle being left in the patient’s arm, the Advertiser understands that the hospital had already approached the complainant and requested that she meet up with the hospital management this week.

According to a reliable source, after the Advertiser ran the story in its May 18 issue, two representatives of the hospital, a social worker and a sister in one of the hospital wards, were sent to Hermanus’ home on Friday, May 18.

This was to arrange for a meeting between the complainant and the Tambo Memorial Hospital management.

Hermanus confirmed that she was on Friday approached by the hospital representatives, adding that she suspects that management wanted to deal with the medical negligence complaint internally and perhaps resolve the matter with her without it being taken to court.

The meeting was supposed to be held on May 21, but the patient said she referred the delegates to her lawyer who she claims had undertaken to pursue this issue further.

The needle has since been removed from Hermanus’ body, but Hermanus stated that she remains unhappy with the way the hospital management handled the situation. -@MthuphaFanie
