Watch: Nurses Day celebrated at the Advanced East Rand Day Hospital

International Nurses Day is commemorated on May 12 to recognise the crucial role nurses play in the well-being and recovery of patients.

Nurses at the Advanced East Rand Day Hospital commemorated International Nurses Day on May 14.

Wearing matching blue scarves representing the hospital’s colours, they lit candles and recited their nurses pledge during the celebration.

Liezl Balfour, Advanced East Rand facility manager encouraged her team to continue serving patients selflessly.

Operations manager for the northern region Anina de Bruyn said: “International Nurses Day is a day to say thank you to all our nurses and also reflecting on the importance of their profession. A career in nursing is a calling, so today we are just reminding that they are valuable.”

Nurses that have done outstanding work since the opening of the hospital were honoured with appreciation certificates and gifts.

Sister Kelebogile Mogoerane, also known as Queen of the East, was one of the nurses that were recognised for her hard work and dedication.

“As a nurse, I always make sure that my patients are laughing as a way to calm their nerves and cheer them up. I’m glad we are recognised for our efforts and hard work,” she said.
