Volatile strike action reported in Jet Park

Protests is  over the national minimum wage of R20 per hour. Saftu is also protesting the labour law amendments, including those on industrial action.

It is reported there is trouble brewing this morning in Jet Park, especially in Jansen and Jet Park roads.

It is believed there is activity around the Elandsfontein train station.

This is part of the South African Federation of Trade Unions national strike today, which is aimed to bring the country to a standstill.

Capt Juanita Coetzer, spokesperson for Boksburg North SAPS, said police have been deployed to Jet Park and that reports have surfaced of rocks being thrown at vehicles and possible intimidation of those wanting to attend work.

  • According to Srgt Cebisa Maseko, spokesperson for the Boksburg SAPS, there is at the moment no reported protest action happening in the station’s precinct.
