The much-anticipated ‘donkey’ derby, hosted by the Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake, was a great success.

This event takes place annually to raise funds for the club’s various community projects, and this year the fund-raiser was held at the Masonic Hall in Jubilee Road on April 21.

The event was supported by Rotarians from the Boksburg, Benoni Aurora, Benoni Aurora Anns, Benoni Van Ryn and the Benoni Lions clubs.

There were seven ‘races’, with children even participating to make the event exciting and fun.

For the classic handicap race, Rotarians raced against each other.

Dave Beattie, representing the green team, (Our Little Pixie donkey) won and in the president’s handicap fifth race, Connor Morton, who represented the red team (Money Gone Missing Donkey), was the winner.
