The suspects caught on a video, which has been doing the rounds on social media, attempting to hijack a couple in Van Dyk Park on Thursday, April 19, have been arrested.
According to the Constable Nkemeleng Mabula, Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson, a couple was about to leave their driveway in Van Dyk Park, on Thursday night, when they were approached by armed men and forced out of their vehicle.
“The suspects could not reverse the car they attempted to hijack and they ran back to their getaway car. The male victim jumped back into his car and reversed into the suspects’ car,” said Mabula.
Mabula said two of the suspects managed to run away while another two remained in the vehicle and were apprehended by CPF members and members of the community.
The police recovered an unlicensed firearm.
The two suspects will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of attempted hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
