Round Table’s ‘Meisiekind’ dies age 43

A memorial service was held for the well-loved and community-minded Schöltz, fondly known as ‘Meisiekind’, at the Benoni Northerns clubhouse on April 11.

Tributes have streamed in on Facebook for a former chairman of Boksburg Round Table 17, Charl Schöltz, who died on April 6 at his home in Boksburg North, aged 43.

Schöltz was also Gauteng Area Tabler of the Year 2014/15 and a past director of the Gold Rand Harley Owners Group.

At the handing over the Gauteng honour on March 27, 2015, Leon Garbade, Round Table South Africa president 2014/15, said Scholtz was a remarkable tabler.

“Not only did he see his commitments through as chairman of Round Table Boksburg 17, but he did indeed travel to all of our 14 areas and attended area conferences representing the Round Table Gauteng area, as well as his table.

“This has come at a considerable cost to his own pocket and this, too, underpins his dedication to our wonderful association, as well as to his fellow tabling brothers.

“I have had the pleasure of seeing Charl and his wife (Annelette Bezuidenhout) at many of our area conferences and he has always been the epitome of a gentleman; I would like to thank him for that.”

In several moving tributes, friends and family described him as having a passion for life and a passion for people, and as someone who always wanted to lend a helping hand.

Memorial-goers then proceeded to the Boksburg Round Table clubhouse, in Parkdene, for a celebration of Schöltz’s life.

He is survived by his wife, Annelette Bezuidenhout, their daughter, Jordan (7), stepson, Jeano Bezuidenhout, brothers, Danie and Francois Schöltz, and his mother, Alma Schöltz.
