Theft of motor vehicle, carjackings rife in Boksburg

Below are some of the serious crimes recently reported to the Boksburg SAPS:

  • Robbed

• In broad daylight, on March 12, armed thugs stole money, four laptops and a cellphone during a robbery at a business located on Church Street in Boksburg.

Pretending to be customers, the robbers, described as two African males, entered the business premises and threatened the victims with a firearm before looting the place. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

• To protect his belongings and girlfriend, an Angelo Informal Settlement resident engaged in an unsuccessful war against robbers and rapists who invaded his home on March 10.

The man and his girlfriend were asleep in a shack when the assailants entered the property and threatened them with what resembled a gun while demanding clothing and a solar power system.

The boyfriend fought back, but the intruders stabbed him multiple times and he was eventually overpowered. The thugs then stole a pair of shoes, cash, a cellphone and the solar power kits. They also grabbed his girlfriend and took her to an undisclosed location where they raped her.

  • Carjacking

• A man’s Ford Ranger bakkie was hijacked in his driveway on Voortrekker Road in Boksburg on March 12. The man told police that he was on his way to work when he was hijacked. He drove out of the property and parked the idling vehicle in the driveway in order to go and close the gate.

All of a sudden two men clad in balaclavas appeared, pointed a firearm at him, took his cellphone and drove away in his vehicle.

  • Theft of motor vehicle

• A woman had her red Toyota Etios Cross stolen while it was parked outside a doctor’s surgery on corner Kingfisher Avenue and Oberon Road in Sunward Park on March 13. The victim parked her car there and went inside the building to visit her doctor. About five minutes later, she returned to the parking area and noticed her car was leaving the property.

• A motor cycle was stolen from a residential property in Palm Street on March 8.

• On March 9, thieves stole a vehicle parked on Wassenaar Street in Parkrand. The owner told the police that he parked his vehicle and went inside Parkrand Primary, but when he returned to the spot, the vehicle was gone.

• A Toyota Corolla was stolen from the roadside parking in Ruffels Street, Cinderella, on March 10.

• A white Mazda BT-50 4×4 was stolen on March 10 while parked in the parking lot of Laerskool Baanbreker in Parkrand. The owner left his vehicle and went inside the school, but when he returned, it was nowhere to be found.

  • Smash and grab

• A driver had her handbag stolen while waiting for the traffic light to turn green at the intersection of Trichardts and Kingfisher Avenue, Sunward Park on March 10. The thief caught the woman completely off guard. He smashed her car window and snatched the bag containing her personal belongings before fleeing the scene.
