Voter registration goes smoothly

Voting stations report smooth sailing this past weekend

Hundreds of eligible Boksburg voters made their way to their local voting stations in response to the IEC’s call to all South Africans to register to vote, and update their address details on the voter’s roll during the national voter registration weekend, on March 10 and 11.

The Advertiser visited several voting stations over the weekend and supervisors at the respective voting stations said that the registration drive at these stations went smoothly and without any disruptions.

They added that their stations opened on time, at 8am, and closed at 5pm.

Eligible and registered voters visited the Wit Deep Primary voting stations in response to the IEC’s call to all South Africans to register to vote, and update their address details on the voter’s roll during the national voter registration weekend.

People had the opportunity to register as new voters and those already registered used the chance to check and update their address details in preparation for the 2019 national and provincial elections.

Various political leaders were also seen at the voting stations and local police made regular visits to the different stations to ensure that citizens were allowed to enjoy their constitutional right to register as voters without intimidation.

The Advertiser, however, understands that two Pakistani nationals who came to update their address details at the voting station at Hoërskool Voortrekker were referred to the IEC offices as officials were apparently not convinced that their identity documents were legitimate. -@MthuphaFanie
