Vital computer equipment stolen from Boksburg’s child welfare

Burglar proofing did not deter the criminals

Boksburg Child Welfare is appealing for a donation of computer equipment after recently suffering a setback with the theft of computers from its Vosloorus and CBD offices.

The computers were used by social workers to compile reports for court and for the Department of Social Development, related to cases involving children in emergency care.

These reports are a vital component of child welfare’s functions.

Vanessa Naidoo-Pillay, assistant director, said in Vosloorus thieves broke a window and forced the burglar proofing open to gain entry and steal an entire computer set-up (monitor, keyboard and tower) and a microwave.

At the offices in Boksburg, they broke a window and managed to slide the entire computer set-up out under the burglar proofing.

“The theft of these computers is a real blow for our social workers who now have to share equipment with other office staff and wait for a computer to be available for them to do their reports,” Naidoo-Pillay.

“While there are hard copies of many of the reports, a lot of reports are now lost due to the theft.

“We are trying our best to re-build Boksburg Child Welfare and move forward for our community and our efforts are now severely hampered by the theft of the computers.”

Anyone who can help Boksburg Child Welfare with a donation of computer equipment can contact Naidoo-Pillay on 011 039 4679 or nesnaidoo@yahoo.com
