Suspected serial rapist’s victim tally may rise

The case was postponed to April 11 for further investigation.

A suspected serial rapist, who managed to escape from prison in May 2016, has been re-arrested and will face five charges of rape and two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances in the Boksburg Regional Court.

The suspect is also being investigated for rapes in Soshanguve and Limpopo.

He was first arrested in November 2015 after being positively linked through DNA to a rape which occurred in Reiger Park and which was reported to the police on January 31, 2015.

He appeared in the Boksburg Regional Court on December 29, 2015, and was remanded in custody.

On May 19, 2016, he escaped from custody but was eventually re-arrested and again appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on January 12 and February 14, this year.

The charges relate to incidents which took place in July 2012 and in January, March, April and May 2015, in Reiger Park and Boksburg. The accused has been positively linked to all five cases through DNA.
