Accused in Vosloorus child rape, kidnapping case is family member of victims

He will be sentenced on three counts of rape and one of kidnapping on February 27.

A 26-year-old man pleaded guilty to charges of rape and kidnapping involving children aged between three and nine, who are family members of his, in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court recently.

Tshepo Mokone of Extension Nine, Holomisa informal settlement, Windmill Park, is accused of:

• Raping a three-year-old girl multiple times on February 2, 2014, in her family home.

• Kidnapping a nine-year-old girl on December 12, 2014, and raping her multiple times.

• Raping a four-year-old boy on February 9, 2015.

Senior prosecutor Henk Strydom explained that the charges against Mokone were initially withdrawn by the state (on January 7, 2016) as the children were too young to testify/verbalise what had happened to them and DNA results had not been finalised.

The matter was placed back on the court roll on September 15, 2017, and the accused summonsed to appear in court.
