Woman in court over 400m of suspected stolen cable

The preliminary investigations pointed to the cable being Telkom property that recently went missing in the area.

EMPD and police officers arrested a 40-year-old woman at the Villa Liza sports ground on February 10 for being found in possession of electrical cable.

EMPD spokesperson Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago said the woman was in possession of an electrical cable over 400m which, according to the Ekurhuleni Anti-Cable Theft Unit, is worth about R20 000.

“The police acted swiftly after receiving the information.

“The cable was seized by the police and the suspect was detained at the Dawn Park Police Station on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property,” Kgasago said.

The woman appeared in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court on February 12.
