Residents deny metro’s claim that faulty geysers are being fixed

The geysers were installed in June, last year, by a contractor hired by the metro.

The Ekurhuleni metro has responded to reports of faulty geysers at council properties in Sky Street, Boksburg North.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said: “The matter of the leaking geysers was referred to the energy department.

“According to the engineering technician, all the leaking geysers in Sky Street were attended to on January 25.

“It was also indicated that the contractor is on site attending to all challenges pertaining to leaking solar geysers.”

Not completely true

But, according to Marie Russell, from Samaritaan Huis in Sky Street, the technicians have been to one or two houses but not all the houses yet.

“People are still complaining about their leaking geysers and my geyser has also started giving problems.

“For the past three days we haven’t had hot water and when I called the technicians who were fixing the geyser next door, they said they could not attend to my problem because they are still busy at Scribante,” Russell said.

Anneline Smith, another resident, said they haven’t fixed the leaking geyser at her neighbour Martjie van der Merwe’s house either.

An 88-year-old pensioner has been having problems with her solar geyser for months now.
