Boksburg Lake’s upgrade of facilities moves into next phase

The facility remains closed to the public while major construction is still underway

The metro has set aside millions for the refurbishment of Boksburg Lake’s public facilities.

The Advertiser visited the lake again this week and spoke to Sophie Olifants, the community liaison officer (CLO) for the project.

According to her, phases one and two have been completed and the new main contractor, Leafy Space, and its subcontractors are now busy with phases three and four.

“The construction work currently underway on the north, west and south banks of the lake include paving the pedestrian pathways and roads, landscaping, planting of grass and trees, installation of park furniture and litter bins, irrigation as well as erecting wire fencing.

It is understood that the contract with the current main contractor expires in June when the current phases are projected to be completed.

This multi-million rand project, which is divided into phases, started with the renovation of the boathouse which was revamped at a cost of about R4-million, a couple of years ago.

It was then followed by a R2.1-m project in 2015 which consisted of the construction of an amphitheater, braai facilities, installation of park furniture and landscaping.

A further estimated R6-m has been spent on the recently completed phases. -@MthuphaFanie
