Alleged thief dies after being impaled on palisade fence

Suspect tried to flee from the victim.

A 28-year-old alleged thief died after he fell on a sharp palisade fence while fleeing from his targeted victim.

His death follows an attempted house break-in on January 21 in Naeser Street, Parkdene.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko the apparent thief, Thamsanqa Mogote of Moletsane in Soweto, and his accomplice entered the yard and started to break the door of the house, while the owner was inside preparing breakfast.

“The homeowner heard the commotion and immediately armed himself with a kitchen knife.

“The suspects forced open the door, entered the house and confronted the victim.

“The victim fought back and a struggle ensued.

“One of the suspects gave up and fled the scene leaving his accomplice still fighting with the victim during which Mogote sustained two scrape wounds to his back.

“Mogote also eventually exited the house and ran towards the fence and tried to leap over it. He, however, fell, impaling on it,” said Maseko.

The palisade pierced his chest.

“Due to the extensive injuries that he sustained, Mogote died instantly,” said Maseko.

His accomplice is still at large, but police said they are confident that they will soon close in on him. -@MthuphaFanie
