New long-term parking to open at OR Tambo

This parkade is a five-minute walk from domestic and international terminals

OR Tambo International Airport will offer travellers greater parking convenience from February 1 when the current Super South area closes and a new long-term parking area opens in the new parkade just 500m from the airport terminals.

The fees for using the new long-term parking facility will remain at current levels provided travellers book online.

Travellers using the existing long-term parking area need to wait for a shuttle bus, which can result in delays due to the high volume of traffic on roads around the airport.

The new long-term parking area in the MSP2 parkade under the City Lodge hotel offers 4 300 parking bays over five levels. This parkade is a five-minute walk from the domestic and international terminals.

Directional signage for the new long-term parking area has been installed on airport access roads.

The long-term parking area is ideal for travellers who will be away for three days or longer. Travellers can book via the ‘Book Parking Online’ link at www.airports.co.za,

Travellers can save up to 50 per cent of their total parking fee by booking up to five days in advance. Discounts start at 10 per cent for booking one day in advance, 20 percent for booking two days in advance and up to 50 per cent for the five-day maximum advance booking period.

Users of long-term parking will be able to get a quote on the website and secure a spot, pending availability, as long as the booking is completed no later than 11pm on the day prior to entry.

Once parking has been booked online, travellers simply need to insert the credit card that was used to make the booking to gain access to the new long-term parking area. On their return, travellers need to insert the same credit card into the reader at the exit boom to receive the booking discount.

“This long-term parking solution within easy reach of the passenger terminals, will save travellers significant time and money,” says Leigh Gunkel-Keuler, spokesperson for OR Tambo International Airport.

“The booking option guarantees travellers a parking at a discounted rate and significantly reduces the time they spend getting to the terminal for their flights.”

Present users of the Super South parking area will find they will receive the same low rates as they are currently paying R55 a day and R25 per 12-hour period, or part thereof.

Travellers who wish to use the dedicated long-term parking area without advance booking can park on Level 1 but will have to exceed a three-day stay to qualify for long-term parking rates. Once the stay has exceeded three days, the rate will automatically recalculate to long-term rates – the same as one would have paid at Super South.

Discounted booked parking is already available in the MSP2 parkade on Level 2 so travellers, who book their parking spot online at www.airports.co.za, can start making use of the facility immediately.

The Super South long-term parking area will close on February 1.
