H&M East Rand Mall turned on its head by EFF protesters

Boksburg Police confirm that rubber bullets were not fired to disperse the angry mob

A group of about 12 people believed to be members of the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) attacked the H&M store at the East Rand Mall this morning in protest against a racist advert by H&M.

Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson, Capt Juanita Coetzer confirmed the attack, saying police were called to the store at about 11.45am and found that the suspects have caused substantial damage.

“They pushed and kicked clothing to the ground before they left the store,” said Coetzer.

No arrests have been made so far but police are now investigating a case of malicious damage to property.

The store has closed and no injuries have been reported.

Coetzer added that no rubber bullets were fired at the H&M store at the East Rand Mall.

H&M has reportedly closed all its stores across Gauteng following the protests.

The company came under attack following an advertisement featuring a black child modelling a shirt with the slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle”.

The company has since removed the online advert.
