Cellphone thieves hijack car with driver in it

A gang of four armed men robbed a cellphone shop of an undisclosed amount of money and made off with dozens of cellphones in Witfield.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the robbers arrived at the shop moments after it opened on the morning of December 13.

The shop is located on Main Street, outside the Witfield Shopping Centre.

According to Coetzer, the four men held staff members at gunpoint, loaded cellphones into a bag and took cash before leaving the shop.

“They then hijacked a man’s car, a Toyota Rav 4, as he was parking near the shop and drove off while he was still in the car.

“The owner was then pushed out of the car near the Witfield Dam and the suspects disappeared with his car,” Coetzer said.

“Boksburg North police officers reacted swiftly and later managed to recover the hijacked car in Delmore informal settlement.”

The suspects are still at large and the police are investigating a case of business robbery and hijacking. -@FanieFLK
