Child (7) shocked to death by electrified water tap

A seven-year-old girl died after she apparently came into contact with an electrified water tap at a residential house in Reiger Park yesterday (December 4).

According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, based on initial investigations, it appears the child was electrocuted when she opened the tap to drink water.

“Another child spotted the little girl lying on the ground next to the tap and immediately alerted some nearby adults, who then called paramedics,” Phathela said.

Paramedics tried to revive the little girl but her vital signs did not return after almost an hour of CPR and advanced life support interventions. She was then declared dead at the scene.

Phathela stated that it remains unclear how the tap had become electrified and said investigations are continuing.

He added that the Ekurhuleni metro’s technical staff would conduct an inspection of the property.

Police have registered an inquest docket and are awaiting post-mortem results to determine the cause of the child’s death.

Stabbed to death

In another tragic incident a woman died after she was stabbed more than 20 times in Ramaphosa.

According to Phathela, someone stumbled upon the woman’s body lying in a street in Road Reserve on Sunday morning.

Police were called to the scene and are now investigating a murder case. -@FanieFLK
