The baby girl, whose age is estimated to be a few days old, was reportedly spotted by a passer-by on the night of November 18.
The passer-by heard a baby crying and thereupon noticed a baby wrapped in a brown blanket and notified the police.
Police arrived at the scene and the baby was taken to Tambo Memorial Hospital where she was named Siphesihle – meaning beautiful gift.
She will later be taken to a place of safety.
Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela said police were now looking for the biological parents or anyone who might have information about the baby’s family.
Anyone with information can contact Phathela on 071 676 0555/ 011 916 7000. Or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. -@FanieFLK
