Councillor confirms workers are employed to compile a database of wheelie bins

Impala Park resident Chris Emmerich said on November 11 he has questioned the motives of two supposedly municipal workers inquiring about wheelie bins.

According to him, they were walking along Argosy Road and they were apparently sent by the metro to count wheelie bins in the area. He, however, found it strange that they were not carrying any identification to prove that they are working for the metro.

According to Emmerich, on Saturday around 10am as he went to the shops, he noticed two women holding papers and a tablet.

“When we returned in the afternoon I again saw the women and they took a picture of my house without my permission.

“When I asked them why they told me that they are inquiring about how many wheelie bins I have in my yard,” he said.

Emmerich said he then asked them for identification cards but they didn’t have them.

“If these two women were really working for the metro they should’ve had identification letters or something. The whole situation for me seemed strange,” Emmerich said.

Clr Simon Lapping for Ward 17 confirmed there are workers employed by the metro compiling a database of wheelie bins.

“The process started mid-October and will continue until November in Boksburg and Germiston. I have sent notices about the workers on WhatsApp groups to let residents be aware of it,” said Lapping.

Lapping said from what he knows the workers should have identification cards on them.
